Tyrone Mears has returned to Derby after his loan with Marseille ended and they decided against the option of signing him.

The 26-year-old caused outrage when he undertook a trial with the French side without consent from Derby and this led to former boss Paul Jewell insisting that he’d never play for the club again. He eventually joined them on loan for the season but has seen his first team chances limited in France.

The defenders claims that he could be good enough to play international have materialised, but the they are not with England as he said they could be they are with Jamaica after he was selected in February against Nigeria. Mears’ belief that a top Premier League club or European one that could offer him European football year-in-year-out coming in for him also seem a long way off at the moment.

Chairman Adam Pearson has said that we’ll sell Mears if we have any interest in him but at the moment we’ve not had any. Nigel Clough has previously said that he is willing to give him the chance to prove himself, but if we can sell Mears summer I’m sure we will!
