The last minute transfer, on-loan for the rest of the season, of West Ham United defender Tyrone Mears to the Rams, has given Derby a boast as they enter a crucial stage of the Premier League push. He could be the final part of Billy Davies jigsaw, and the defender, who has played in the Premiership under Alan Pardew and Alan Curbishley this season, was certain he had made the right decision to join the Rams when Billy Davies came calling, and the signing could be made permanent at the end of the season

The 23-year-old has worked with Davies when the pair was together at Preston North End but both went their separate ways over the summer. In the meantime West Ham snapped up Mears in a million-pound deal but when Derby were mentioned he was keen to do a deal, and he is looking forward to working with his former gaffer.

Mears said: “I couldn’t turn it down at all. There were a few clubs interested in me but this was the team I wanted to come to.
“Billy always wants the best out of his players and I don’t know why, but my first training session was a bit of a shock with the intensity of it!
“He is very hungry and wants his team to be the best, he gets the best out of his players, he wants to get to the Premiership and win things, and I want to be part of it
“When you’ve worked with Billy you realise that and it makes you respect him so much and want to work hard.”
Mears realises there is a long way to go, and first he has to win a place in the starting eleven, and that`s a decision for the boss – Good Luck Billy !!!!!!
