Jay McEveley has joined Preston on a one-month loan deal to act as cover for injuries and suspensions at Deepdale. Michael Drew, his agent, has told of Jay’s desire to play some regular football, and this gives him the chance.

‘Jay will be joining Preston on a month’s loan.

‘They have a few problems at left-back and they have moved quickly to bring in Jay.

‘Jay is looking forward to it as he just wants to be playing regularly and he will see how it goes.’

Drew was talking to skysports.com.

McEveley has struggled to hold down a first-team place under Paul Jewell, so this loan will either give him the chance to impress him and show him he is worth a place in the Derby side, or gives the Scottish international a chance to impress Preston, or someone else, to earn himself a permanent move away from Pride Park?
