Chris Martin is Derby County`s second signing of the summer after he put pen to paper on a two year deal to complete a free transfer from Norwich City.

Martin spent two months on loan at Pride Park at the back end of the recently finished season scoring two goals in thirteen appearances and when it was clear that he was surplus to requirements at Carrow Road Nigel Clough wasted no time in bringing the striker back to the club on a permanent basis. The striker spent a loan spell at Swindon Town earlier in the season making twelve appearances and scoring one goal and with his contract up this summer it always looked likely Martin would leave the Premiership club. Clough decided that he had shown enough in his loan spell to pursue a deal and told dcfc.co.uk:

“Chris has got plenty of good qualities and we think he`ll get goals for us next season, especially with a good pre-season under his belt. His loan spell provided two goals, but he had two wrongly ruled out for offside as well and he was unlucky not to get a few more too. He`s a strong player and adds a physical presence in both penalty areas, which is what you need in the Championship.”
