The Derby Vitalfootball poll result in the question ‘Who was the Rams best Keeper` has been won by Mart Poom with 40% of the vote from our site readers.

Poom signed for the Rams in 1997 for £500000 and made his debut in the Premiership clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, along with the other Rams signing Paulo Wanchope in the famous 2-1 victory. He played 146 games for the Rams between 1997 and 2003, before joining Sunderland for £2 million.

He went on to play 58 games at the Stadium of Light, including his famous last minute headed goal against the Rams at Pride Park on September 20th 2003. The goal was described as ‘The best headed equaliser by a goalkeeper against his former club in the last minute, ever!’ by the radio commentator.

He moved to the Gunners in 2006 and is currently there third-choice keeper behind Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia. Poom has represented his country, Estonia, on 105 occasions, making his debut in a 1992 against Slovenia.

Second in the poll was Peter Shilton with 31%. Shilton had a glittering career in the game making 1005 appearances in a 30 year span. He was signed by Arthur Cox from Southampton in 1987 for £90000, and went on to make 175 appearances for the Rams. He also played for Leicester City, Stoke City, Nottingham Forest and Southampton. He broke the 1000 barrier playing for Leyton Orient in 1996. He also received 125 caps for England. The rest of the votes were Colin Boulton 16%, Ken Oxford 5% and Les Green and Reg Matthews on 4%.
