The Rams were undone by a lax piece of goalkeeping by Kelle Roos and a penalty as they crashed in the second of their pre-season friendlies 3-1 to the League Two Mansfield Town.

The Rams had looked in little danger during the first half and with Scott Carson in goal, there looked little danger of Mansfield troubling the Rams backline, never mind the keeper. All that changed as the second half ticked over into the 65th minute. Derby and Roos tried to play themselves out of defence but the Mansfield forwards pressured the keeper and forced a mistake which they took full advantage of and scored.

Derby were now on the back foot but to their credit forced the Stags back for the next five minutes, when a smart move and finish by Mason Bennett made the scores level at 1-1.

The Rams then made a few changes bringing on Blackman and Butterfield this made the number of subs made 9 following the addition of Roos, Bogel, Keogh, Pearce, Thorne Johnson and Nugent at halftime.

Mansfield also made substitutions around this time and to good effect as a swift move forced a rash challenge in the penalty area, resulting in a penalty for the Stags, which they duly scored from.

Derby had to push forward in search of yet another equaliser, but it was Mansfield who took full advantage of the higher line of the Rams and a break from midfield split the Derby defence wide open, with most still in the opposition half resulting in an easy goal to make the final score Mansfield Town 3 Derby County 1.

The Rams now face an even stiffer test at the weekend as Premiership Southampton come calling on Pride Park.
