The Rams Premiership campaign is two months away but the transfer rumours are hitting the newspapers in a big way. One that looks a possibility is that of former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie. The 30-year-old spent most of last season at Stoke City after he was not in manager Martin O`Neil`s plans.

It`s been reported Hendrie and his agent and father, Paul, held talks with the Rams before they sealed their place in the top-flight via Monday’s play-off final 1-0 victory against west Bromwich Albion.

Hendrie said: “My dad has always played a big role with my contracts and it will be the same again.
‘He spoke to Derby last Sunday and thinks there might be something there for me.
‘Derby didn’t want to make any decisions until after the play-off final. They have gone up to the Premiership so that would be a good option.
‘I would love to stay in the Premiership, although I am not saying I wouldn’t drop down to the Championship if need be.
‘It’s vital I get this contract right. It’s a big one for me and might be my last.
‘I’d like a three-year deal. Nobody is paying for me. I am going from Villa on a free transfer and I will just be walking in somewhere.’

Davies has a number of options he will be weighing up, but first he will have to sort his differences with the Rams board.
