Tom Lawrence has said that Gary Rowett was a big part of the reason that he signed for the club after joining from Leicester City for a fee reported at £5milion plus add-ons.

Lawrence scored 11 goals in a loan spell with Ipswich Town last season and was Rowett`s top target during the transfer window and after a protracted case he finally got his man on Tuesday. The former Manchester United academy graduate has picked up three full caps for Wales and after Derby`s interest was known he was keen to join the club. Talking to dcfc.co.uk about the move and the influence Rowett had on his decision Lawrence said:

“Seeing first-hand what he has done with his new signings, the squad that he has already got in place and the ambition of the club was what brought me here. You want to play at the highest level that you can, but I think the whole club, the whole set-up here and the ambition here of getting to the Premier League was a big pull. I can`t wait to get going now.”
