Claude Davis, who should have travelled with the squad to Holland, has remained in England due to another knee problem. This time he twisted his knee in training.

‘Claude has twisted his knee.

‘He has had a problem with his knee over the last few months.

‘He was with Jamaica over the summer and has come back and done all the pre-season training so far.

‘In the warm up for training on Tuesday he twisted his knee and so we have left him behind to get some treatment.’

Jewell was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The 29-year-old defender, who missed the final months of our disastrous Premier League campaign last season with his knee ligament damage, had to undergo surgery but his latest setback isn’t thought to be that serious and isn’t related in anyway to that other injury so he is expected to be fit in time for the new season.

New signing Kris Commons, tight hamstring, and veteran defender Alan Stubbs, thigh, both missed the first training session in Holland and are expected to miss Friday’s friendly with Dutch Second Division side TOP Oss.
