Seth Johnson, who took on the captain’s role for his 100th appearance for Derby County in the weekends 0-0 draw against Brighton, said he wants to stay at the Rams after his current contract expires at the end of the season.

Reports suggest the club are in talks with the 26 year old midfielder’s agent in an attempt to agree an extended contract.

Johnson was sold by Derby to Leeds for a whopping £7million fee but following an injury ravaged stint he returned to Derby this season.

Johnson revealed to the Derby Evening Telegraph: ‘Talks are on-going with my agent about a contract. I’m not sure how far down the line they are but hopefully something will be sorted out soon. I don’t see any problems. I’m very pleased to be here. The manager has been good to me and so have the supporters. I have no reason to want to leave. I’m playing football and I want to help to take the club forward and the Premiership must be our long-term goal.’
