Johnson back in the fold for Rams

Michael Johnson is back at Pride Park and ready if needed over the busy festive period.

The experienced defender who has been out on loan at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday wasn`t given a look in by Billy Davies.

His three-month spell at Hillsborough ended on Saturday and now the 34-year-old is back training at Moor Farm, and is ready for action, he played 13 times for Wednesday, but he is out of contract in the summer.

Rams boss Paul Jewell has said he will recall all the players currently out on loan to take a look at them and boost the numbers in his stretched squad.

Johnson was delighted to be back, he said: “I spoke to Paul Jewell late last week and he has made it clear that I am welcome.

‘That was nice to hear and now I’ll work as hard as I can in training to make sure I am ready if called on because there are a lot of games coming up.’

Johnson’s farewell appearance for Wednesday came in a home defeat by Watford and they were keen to sign him permanently and there is an 18-month contract on the table, but a few other clubs are also interested.

‘I really enjoyed my loan at Wednesday and it went well for me personally,’ said Johnson.

‘Now I’ll wait to see what happens in January.’
