Paul Jewell was relived to get a point at Charlton on Monday in the 2-2 draw at the Valley as he didn’t think we played well on the road, again.

‘We were rubbish but we got a point.

Relief, yes, but I am still very annoyed. We can take positives out of the result, not the performance.

‘We are low on confidence, everybody can see that, but we have been deserving of some luck all season because we haven’t really had any.’

A real plus point, other than Nathan Ellington’s injury time equaliser of course, was the return from injury of Giles Barnes. The midfielder came on in the second half to play his first football since February.

‘He is nowhere near 100 per cent fit but with the lack of midfield players we have available to us at the moment, it was nice to see him back.

‘He has been out eight or nine months and has shown great enthusiasm in training. We’d like to get him a couple more games behind closed doors because he is obviously not match fit but he has got 40 minutes under his belt and it won’t do him any harm.’

Jewell was talking to the Evening Telegraph.
