Jewell’s Anger

Paul Jewell wasn’t best pleased with the referee, Blackpool, or their boss Simon Grayson following an incident that led to Blackpool’s winner in our 3-2 defeat yesterday.

Jewell felt that Andy Hall, the referee, should have given a foul for David Vaughan’s challenge on Nacer Barazite. Hall didn’t and instead play continued with Ben Burgess going on to score. Jewell was further incensed when Grayson and Hall shared a joke while Barazite, who has suffered a serious knee injury, was treated.

‘We managed to get back to 2-1 and at that point I thought we were going to get something out of the game. Then for their third goal I thought it was a foul on my player.

‘I was disappointed when the referee was smiling and talking to their manager when one of my players is in distress on the floor. I don’t think that is right.

‘Their lad jumped in from behind. He has got the ball but he has come from behind. I think it is a foul.

‘But even if it isn’t a foul I don’t think it is right that the referee is smiling and chatting to the opposition manager while my player is lying on the floor.

‘That player has medial knee ligament damage and needs a scan to see just how severe it is.’

The Blackpool boss thought that it was a fair tackle and didn’t agree with Jewell.

‘I thought it was a good tackle by David Vaughan. Their lad slipped and hurt his knee. I thought it was a good tackle.

‘I said to the ref that I thought it was a good tackle and he smiled at me and said “yes”.’

Both bosses were speaking to the Blackpool Gazette.

I’ve not seen the incident with Barazite, so I cant comment on it, and say if it was or wasn’t a foul. What I do know is it is disappointing to see our run end, but we must now pick ourselves up and start another run. We’ve done it one, we can do it again!
