A packed Pride Park was expecting the Championship season to start in a promising way on Saturday, but that wasn’t the case. Last season we become accustomed to losing, but we expected to start this season with something a little better but the defeat against Doncaster was greeted with boos, which is something Paul Jewell says he can understand.

‘I guess if one of the chances we had early on had gone in, may be it would have been different.

‘You could see as a team they [Doncaster] were more comfortable playing with each other than we were.

Jewell handed compeitive debuts to 7 of his 13 summer signing and this is something that he feels contributued to the defeat, but still feels it was unaceeptable.

‘Seven debutants in a league game, you are lucky if everything goes to plan. They were a better team than us, I am not taking that away from them and we did look a new team.

‘I am aware that we need to gel pretty quickly.

‘We should have done better with the chances we missed but this was never going to be an easy game. People looked at it and thought Doncaster Rovers have come up from the division below, but they were always a threat and passed the ball really well.

‘We should be doing better, of course we should be, but we will get better.

‘It’s one game we have had. We’ve got 45 left.’

Jewell was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

Same old same old, but as disappointed as I am we can’t get that carried away off the back of one match, in what is hopefully going to be a much brighter era for Derby this season. Several defeats and the pressure will mount and we will be asking questions, but at the moment lets remain calm and patient, even though it is hard as we also have last seasons disaster also on our minds!
