Jewell Resigns!

Paul Jewell has resigned as Derby boss, doing so late on Sunday night following our defeat against Ipswich at Pride Park.

Jewell has endured a turbulent time as our boss and was under pressure, not following our relegation from the Premier League last season, but because of the disastrous start to the Championship table as this saw us stranded in the bottom three for some time. A great run put us on the verge of a play-off position, but another poor run has again seen us slip towards the relegation zone.

Both Jewell and the board have denied recent claims that he was under pressure, but with the FA Cup 3rd round and Carling Cup Semi-Final against Manchester United approaching he has taken the step of reigning from his post, saying that he felt it in the best interests of the club if he went.

Chris Hutchings takes temporary charge as the search for a new boss begins, with former boss Billy Davies likely to be in the frame along with the likes of the recently sacked Charlton and Blackburn bosses Alan Pardew and Paul Ince respectively.
