Nigel Clough wants Conor Doyle to take his form from training into competitive matches in the new season and show why he took a chance on the American youngster two summers ago after an impressive trial spell at the club.

Doyle will be 21 in October and has been at Pride Park for two seasons now without making an impression on the first-team and Clough thinks it is make or break time for the player. Doyle made fourteen appearances during his first season with The Rams but an injury hit season restricted him to only one start and five substitute appearances last time around.

Despite breaking into the Under-23 squad for his country Doyle is still yet to impress for his club and Clough told dcfc.co.uk:

‘I think Conor has a big 3-4 months ahead of him, which started from the first day of pre-season training. He will be in the squad of 18-20 man we’re thinking about and he has to make his mark in the first team in the next few months.’
