An interested onlooker in last night`s 2-0 victory against the Rams East Midlands rivals Forest was new signing Andy Griffin. The 28-year-old defender who signed on a three year deal, prior to the game saw his new side continue their pre-season.

The Portsmouth defender is capable of playing in either the right or left back position, and he becomes the seventh signing so far this summer for the Rams, but a fee paid to Pompey was not mentioned last night but Davies is delighted to have secured his services.

‘Andy is an excellent player, calm head and has a very good attitude,’ Davies told the official web site.
‘I believe Andy has great years ahead of him. Every time I see him play he shows how consistent he is, so we’re very pleased to have him on board,” Davies added.

The former Newcastle United player could make his league debut for the Rams against his former club in the opening game of the 2007-08 Premier League campaign with Pompey heading to Pride Park in the season opener.

The Rams boss was quizzed on the potential additions to his squad, Davies said: ‘We’ve got one or two irons in the fire and will be working hard right until the end of August to try and strengthen the squad further.”
