Goal line technology in use for playoffs

|

Was it in or not a goal, doubt now taken away thanks to Hawkeye, used for the first time in EFL Playoffs

As Founder members of the Football League, Derby County have been at the forefront of many innovations in the game of football and this season is no exception, as all the playoff games over all three divisions of the English Football League will now use GLT, or Goal Line Technology.

The system is named Hawkeye and has been trialled successfully within the Championship over the last twelve months and has been used for line calls in tennis even longer. It is now being used in the playoffs for the very first time to give referees and their assistants a watertight decision on balls crossing the goal line.

Hawkeye determines if the ball has fully crossed the line and a goal has been scored, with millions of pounds on the line in the Championship playoffs the move will rule out any arguments and give the right result in such crucial decisions, which can be missed by the officials.
