Giles Barnes in injury setback

Rams talented midfielder Giles Barnes has suffered another setback on his road to recovery from a serious knee injury.

The 20-year-old has been out of action since suffering the injury back in February, and he attended world-renowned surgeon Dr Richard Steadman in Colorado for an operation on his knee in March.

He had been making good progress, but his rehabilitation was hampered by a thigh strain suffered in training last month.

He had pencilled in a return in the Rams Reserve League Cup tie against Mansfield Town at Alfreton Town`s Impact Arena on Wednesday, but another thigh strain may have scuppered his comeback plans.

“He`s picked up a little tear in his thigh, which happens when you come back from long-term injury, you do pick up niggles,” said Rams boss Paul Jewell.

‘He`s straining at the leash but he`s not 100 per cent fit. He`s had a couple of setbacks but his knee is fine, which is the main thing.

‘We were looking at him to play on Wednesday night but this might knock him back a bit. We`ll have to speak with the physios and see where we are at,” explained Jewell.
