Giles Barnes has said that he wants to stay with Fulham and now their boss Roy Hodgson has also expressed his desire to keep the midfielder in London if the price is right.

“It’s a loan deal until the end of the season and we have an option to buy him.

“We will have to look into that when the time comes. Apart from anything else it will be a question of how much money is involved.”

Barnes arrived at Fulham struggling for full fitness and has also had a few niggling injuries. Those currently in the Fulham side have been playing well and this has kept him out since he returned to full fitness. Hodgson does expect him to play his part before the season is out though.

“I’m sure he’ll be involved. He’s been a bit unlucky since he’s arrived in that our results have been pretty good so it’s not easy to break in.

“He’s done very well in the reserves, he’s looking a much fitter individual. He’s a vibrant character and his enthusiasm in training every day is a joy to see.

“He seems to enjoy being here and we enjoy having him, albeit that enjoyment is temporary in that I can only keep him happy over a longer period if I give him some chances – and at the moment I haven’t given him many.”

Hodgson was talking to Sky Sports.

The 21-year-old has made no secret of his desire to return to the top-flight, and with Derby looking to offload players this summer to cut the wage bill moving those on that want to go will be the first steps we’ll have to make. Keeping Barnes at Pride Park would be my preferred choice, but he has made it clear he would like to go, so if the price is right for us its best that he does go.

To get his move though the midfielder is going to have to take his chance if it comes along, and then hope we don’t price him out of his move!
