Former Derby stars Michael Forsyth and Darren Wassall have returned to the club to work for the academy. Nigel Clough is keen to have people with a vast Derby history onboard.

“Michael and Darren have a tremendous knowledge of football in the region and a passion for Derby County. They have both played for the club, so have a great understanding of its heritage and how important it is to the people of this area.

“Their enthusiasm for finding local talent is unrivalled and we are fortunate to have them on board as we look to take the academy in a new direction.

“We have other people lined up to come in and will hopefully be able to make announcements on that soon.”

Clough was talking to the official website.

Forsyth, a veteran of over 400 matches for the club, and Wassall, who played over 120 matches, form part of the new look academy set-up following the departures of Phil Cannon, David Lowe and Brian Borrows who left the club last week. It’ll be interesting to see who the other announcements will be in due time.
