Nathan Ellington is looking to put what he says was his worst year in football behind him now that he arrived at Derby from Watford, where he is reunited with his old manager Paul Jewell.

‘This year has been the worst I’ve had as a footballer.

‘My goal ratio at West Brom was still pretty good, even though I was in and out of the team. It was just when I was at Watford and I wasn’t playing in the side that I couldn’t score.

‘I was so pleased to get the chance to join Derby. I didn’t need much convincing to be honest. They’re a big club with a big following and I want to get back in the Premier League with them.

‘Everybody at Derby will get to see I’m the same old Nathan who will score goals for their team. I just want to be given a chance.

It’s frustrating when you’re not playing because you know you can do so much better. When you’re not playing, people start to question whether you’re the same player.

‘Then you start getting negative comments and there’s nothing you can do to prove them wrong.

‘But I know I’ll score goals. I know if I’m given a chance, I’ll find the net.

‘I haven’t changed but it’s only people who really know me, know what I’m capable of, who can see that. I think Paul Jewell can see it.’

Ellington was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

Jewell knows exactly what Ellington can do from their time together at Wigan, so if Ellington can get anywhere near to that form then he will score the goals that could quite possibly fire us to promotion.
