Joe Ledley and Tom Lawrence didn’t make the trip to China with the rest of the Wales squad as injury forced them to miss the China Cup.

New Wales manager Ryan Giggs named the duo in his initial squad for the trip to take on China at the Guangxi Sports Center in Nanning on 22 March followed by a second match on 26 March against either Uruguay or the Czech Republic.

Giggs decided against calling up any replacements for the two in his 23-man squad for the competition.

Ledley has a calf injury and Lawrence is suffering with a back injury.

Giggs had initially said that he was monitoring their fitness and Gary Rowett answered saying he hoped common sense would prevail.

“It is out of my hands but you hope that common sense would prevail in both of those scenarios.

“Any international team can call up whoever they want and get their own medical team to make that analysis. We will offer them our advice and we will see how they choose to use it.”

It appears, for once, common sense did prevail.
