After the nightmare of Reading, The Rams are looking to bounce back away against Doncaster Rovers, a side who they have lost against in the last three league meetings, although Nigel Clough’s side did notch a 1-0 win against Donny in the F.A. Cup earlier in the season. Sean O’Driscoll’s men have enjoyed another good season and sit just five points off the play-off places.
Robbie Savage hopes his side can continue to pick up points on the road, but acknowledges that not enough have been gained away from Pride Park this season. He told dcfc.co.uk: ‘Doncaster will be a really tough game, but we believe in ourselves and we just need to dig in and get something.
‘We’ve lost ten on the road this season and I can’t put my finger on why.
‘We started poorly on Wednesday and it just carried on.
‘I think we need to realise in situations where things aren’t going our way we need to stand firm and defend well as a team.’
Doncaster manager Sean O’Driscoll went to see Derby in action against Reading and this is what he has to say on what he saw: ‘I thought that when they went down to 10 men they showed their mettle and I thought that they were excellent from then on.
‘Regardless of what the final score was, you look at how people are going to react and as a team I thought that they reacted really well and made it difficult for Reading without really sitting back because they had a great chance to go 2-2.
‘They showed a lot of character and I think that they have grown as a team as the season has gone on – probably since they beat us in the FA Cup with a late goal.
‘I think if must have given them a lot of confidence and they’ve had some really good results since. The difficulty in this division is to keep it going.’
Derby County Team News:
Ex- West Brom defender Shelton Martis could return to the Donny squad after recovering from a hamstring injury. Brian Stock, Adam Lockwood and Jason Shackell are all out.
Player to watch: Billy Sharp
Despite missing a penalty which would probably have given his side victory against Preston, he has notched 14 goals this season, making him one of the most potent goal threats in the division.
Doncaster Rovers Team News:
David Martin will start in goal after signing on loan from Liverpool unless Stephen Bywater recovers in time to play. Chris Porter, who missed the Reading game with a virus, will be assessed before the match.
Player to watch: Gilles Sunu
Sunu got off the mark for Derby in the heavy defeat at the hands of Reading and Nigel Clough is excited by what he can do between now and the end of the season.
