Paul Jewell has already signed nine players this summer, but his summer signings aren’t over yet, with him admitting that he still has other targets in mind, with another striker being a priority.

‘I’m not done yet by any means. There are still a number of other targets I am chasing and I want another striker before we kick off.’

Despite signing Liam Dickinson from Stockport this week, adding him to another summer capture Nathan Ellington another striker is wanted and Wigan’s Marlon King has been mentioned but Jewell seems to be ruling him out as he will be too expensive, and loaning him doesn’t seem an option.

‘Yes, we asked about Marlon King.

‘I spoke to Wigan manager Steve Bruce but while I don’t want to wait around, I don’t want to dive into something that I might regret.

‘I have got a few targets. Marlon King would be a big fee. There is no way we could afford the fee and the lad’s wages, though, so I think with the Marlon King one, as much as we want to bring good players here, we have to be realistic about the budget.

‘I thought we might have been able to do a loan deal but at this moment in time it’s not going to happen.’

Jewell was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

He is certainly putting together a very good squad, and a squad that is starting to look as though it will be challenging in the Championship this season, with us certainly capable of finishing in the top six anyway.
