Derby have opted against following up an interest in trialist Jay O’Shea. A fee was agreed with Galway United before Christmas, but the Irish winger has been left disappointed at not getting the move.

‘It is a disappointment that the transfer did not work out but, at this stage, all I want to do is get back playing football.

‘I had a great season with Galway last year and all attention now turns to making a solid start to the new season and move on from there.’

O’Shea was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The 20-year-old featured in behind-closed-doors matches in November against Notts County, and scored twice, and on Wednesday against Aston Villa, but with other right sided options available to Nigel Clough he has decided not to take up the option on the promising winger, who has now returned to the Eircom League.
