The first home game of the decade is against the first away opposition of the season: Scunthorpe United. On that day, The Rams were defeated 3-2 so Nigel Clough’s side will be looking to make amends and avoid defeat at home for the first time in three games against a struggling side who are three places and three points behind Derby in the table.
***Please note – Early indications from the club are that the game will go ahead. Should we receive any news to the contrary, information will be provided on the site.***
New loan signing Nicky Hunt is relishing his opportunity at Pride Park and will enjoy getting some firs team action after being left out of the picture at his parent club, Bolton Wanderers: ‘I want to play games and be involved and the manager has indicated that will happen here, so I’m delighted to have the chance to do that,’ said Hunt. ‘This is an exciting loan move and I can’t wait to get stuck into training and fight for a place in the team. I feel fit and ready to go, so if called upon on Saturday, I’ll be happy to play my part but that is down to the gaffer and his staff.’
‘Having looked at the squad, there are some very good players and with a change of luck will no doubt climb the table,’ he said to the Derby Evening Telegraph.
Winger Kris Commons acknowledges the need to rectify the stuttering home form at Pride Park which has seen The Rams pick up no points in the last two games: ‘We’re on a bit of a high going into the Scunthorpe game, so, hopefully, we can get the three points,’ he said.
‘We need to get back to winning ways in the League. We have definitely slipped up at home in the last couple of matches and put on poor performances.
‘But the Newcastle game gave us a massive lift – the way we defended and rode our luck at times. And to come away from home again and get a 1-1 draw at Millwall is another building block for us.’
Derby County Team News:
Lee Hendrie looks set to continue his spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Lee Croft is well again and Luke Varney is available for selection after the conclusion of his loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday but Dean Leacock is struggling with a knee injury.

If you’re a cynic, and think Commons will engineer a move in January, then he will be keen to put himself in the shop window. Or if you believe his interview with Radio Derby in which he said that he is desperate to play for Derby and get his injury problems out of the way, then he will be eager to do it in front of his own fans.
Scunthorpe United Team News:
Gary Hooper is set to return to the side following an ankle injury and goalkeeper Joe Murphy may come back after a problem, but if not, Josh Lillis will deputise. Grant McCann is suspended and Andrew Wright returns from a ban.
Player to watch: Gary Hooper
The pacy front man netted twice against The Rams at the start of the season and has provided many defences with problems this season.
