Ex-Bristol City man Clayton Fortune has begun a 2 week trial at Moor Farm.

The 23 year old defender is without a club after leaving Ashton Gate at the end of last season, and can play as either a left back or left sided centre back.

Manager Billy Davies had been tracking the player last season whilst in charge at Preston, and told the Derby Evening Telegraph: ‘We were looking for a youngish centre-half at the time to come in under Chris Lucketti, Youl Mawene and Claude Davis, and we felt Clayton had some potential’.

Davies will take his time in making a decision over the player, and also revealed a little more about his future transfer plans to the DET: ‘Left-sided defenders are difficult to find and Clayton has the attributes to fill the role,’ said Davies.

‘With a little bit of attention and work, he could improve but we will make a decision on him at the end of his time with us.

‘We will be looking at bringing in triallists and one or two have been recommended to us but that’s purely to take a look at them. Our priority remains to make an impact with signings over the next week or so.

‘We have targets in mind and hopefully we can get those targets to Derby County.’
