Steve Davies has been handed a new one year deal by Derby County following his hard work to overcome a knee injury in the summer and his return to the side and goal against Portsmouth at the weekend. The youngster has been plagued by injuries in his spell at Pride Park but has shown glimpses of his potential during his short time in the side and Clough has deemed his hard work to get fit again worthy of a one year extension on his contract. Davies has spoken of his desire to repay Clough`s faith in him and realises that he has a lot to prove fitness wise after a run of injuries telling dcfc.co.uk:

“I’ve missed a lot of football, but I’m lucky I’m only 23 and I still have time on my side. Niggling injuries have held me back, and I understand fans will look at me and say I’m injury prone. I have to prove otherwise, but I understand why people would say that because I’m a football fan myself. I’ve worked really hard to get back fit, and now I have to make sure I keep my place in the side.”
