Steve Davies sat out Derby County’s friendly with Burton Albion on Saturday to make sure he stayed fit ahead of a potential move away from Pride Park this week.

Davies turned down the offer of a contract extension over the summer and Nigel Clough has made no secret of the fact that the club are open to offers for last season’s joint top scorer to try and bring in a fee as he enters the last year of his contract. Ipswich Town have been strongly linked with Paul Jewell looking to link up again with the player he first brought to Derby during his brief spell in charge.

Clough is reported to want a fee of nearing £1million for Davies whilst Ipswich are reportedly offering around £500,000 but The Rams’ manager told the Derby Evening Telegraph:

‘We keep saying this, but there might be something happening in the next few days. We are expecting something to happen, it’s just a case of when. We’d like something to happen by the end of next week because, at the moment, Steven is in limbo and we cannot risk playing him.’
