New Derby County signing Tomasz Cywka has been tipped to make a big impact at Pride Park next season by Rams` first team coach Gary Crosby and also the manager who loaned him out last season, Roberto Martinez. The young Polish striker made five appearances, including four starts, at the back end of last season and showed enough in bursts to excite the Derby faithful and earn himself a permanent switch as Nigel Clough continues to reshape his squad.

Martinez said there was a deal for him to remain at Wigan but that Cywka saw his future away from the JJB Stadium with better prospects of first team football at Pride Park and wished him all the best. Gary Crosby meanwhile told the Derby Evening Telegraph:

‘I think people saw in the few games he was with us what he could potentially be. We’ve seen him in training and he is technically very good and a good finisher, which we were pleasantly surprised at.’

“It’s not until you start working with him closely that you see a lot more. He is still very young and he has hardly played any games at all, so it is still only potential – but certainly I think everyone can see that there is potential there.’

Whilst he failed to find the target during his short spell in the side Cywka certainly showed a spark and creativity in stages that was sorely missing from Derby`s play without the injured Kris Commons in the closing weeks of the season. Clough paired the two in the final day clash with Cardiff and they both showed what is lacking at times with their movement and neat passing causing the Bluebirds backline all sorts of problems in the 2-0 victory.
