Tomasz Cywka had a successful debut winning a penalty on his debut after joining Reading on a contract for the rest of the season after being released by Derby County. The young Polish striker made a total of forty-seven appearances after joining on a free transfer from Wigan Athletic in 2010 but failed to feature on a regular basis after the infamous incident at Portsmouth when a mistake led to a late equaliser and a non-to-complimentary rant to the press from Nigel Clough afterwards. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph about the deal Clough said:

‘We could have kept him around as a fringe player for the rest of the season but it is fair to him to let him go out and get some games. He has been on the fringe of things here, so this is an opportunity for him to play in order to be considered for the Polish squad this summer. He feels his best chance of getting in the Polish squad is to be playing.’
