Former Derby County midfielder Lee Croft has signed a permanent contract with Oldham Athletic after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent on the last day of the transfer window.

Croft spent the first half of the season on loan at Boundary Park after turning down a deal to return to St Johnstone who helped to reach European football last season and join up with his former teammate Paul Dickov who was in charge at Oldham at the time. Croft made 29 appearances for The Latics during his loan spell and with him not featuring in Nigel Clough`s plans for the rest of the season he has had his contract cancelled to allow him to make the move permanent. Croft played in the recent FA Cup victory over Liverpool but the shock result could not help Dickov save his job after a poor run of form in League One.

Talking to the official Oldham Athletic website about the deal Croft said:

‘When my loan was cancelled due to my contract at Derby being cancelled, it was always my intention to come in on Friday. I have enjoyed my time here and wanted all along to stay with the lads.’
