Derby have suffered another setback with the news that Paul Green suffered a foot injury in training on Friday that will see him ruled out for the rest of the season.

“He set off sprinting and felt a little pop in his foot. He’s got a crack in his metatarsal, so it’ll be six to eight weeks which should pretty much rule him out for the rest of the season.

“He’s distraught at the moment because he’s the sort of lad that if you had games seven days a week, he’d want to play in them all.”

Nigel Clough was talking to BBC Radio Derby.

The 25-year-old has had a wonderful first season with Derby, when he decided to make the switch from Doncaster to Pride Park despite their promotion into the Championship and our relegation to it from the Premier League, to become a vital component of our side.

Green will be missed for the remaining matches, where he joins Miles Addison, but both will come back fresh and rearing to go next season when Clough will really look to stamp his mark on the club and a promotion push will be his and the players’ ambition.
