Commons Not An Automatic Selection

Kris Commons is back in training after a knee injury, which has forced him to miss Derby’s last five matches, but he’s been warned by Paul Jewell that he’ll not be an automatic selection.

‘Kris is a little bit behind because, in the last five weeks, we have kicked on, energy-wise and confidence-wise.

‘Steve Davies, at the moment, has got the left-hand side. Kris can play left, right or off the striker, so he has got a few strings to his bow but it is nice to be able to say that he has got to fight his way back into the team and that goes for everybody.

‘If you are playing well, you have got every chance of staying in the team.

‘Hopefully, Kris will suffer no reaction to training. As long as he trains from now until Friday and looks in good nick and has no reaction, he will be considered for selection.’

Jewell was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

The 25-year-old, like any other player, should rightly have to battle for his place back in the side having been out of it as no player should be assured of a place. In his absence others have performed so it is down to the Scottish international to win this place back.
