Kris Commons is set for more talks this week over a new contract as Nigel Clough looks to get he him tied down for next season and beyond. Rumours over the last week have linked Rangers with The Rams` leading scorer and whilst the club have denied they have had any official approach from north of the border they are looking to get the contract signed with Commons in fine form this season. He has started fourteen of Derby`s fifteen Championship games and is leading scorer with seven goals; Clough has also been impressed with his improved fitness and work rate this season and told the Derby Evening Telegraph:

‘Talks are on-going and there is a meeting this week again. Kris says he wants to stay and we are doing everything we can to get a new contract sorted out with him as soon as possible. His last two performances, without a goal or an assist, have been exceptionally good team performances. His level of fitness is improving all the time and at the moment, his all-round work for the team has been brilliant.’

This is high praise indeed from Clough who has been critical of Commons` team play and tracking back at times this season but his run of form has coincided with The Rams run of one defeat in nine and their push to fourth in The Championship table.
