Nigel Clough is looking for a settled squad and does not anticipate widespread changes in the same way his side underwent last summer. After a much improved season and a comfortable twelfth placed finish Clough is still looking to strengthen but he knows the strength of the squad is a good base to start from.

With some of the fringe players looking likely to be moved on, Chris Maguire already having joined Sheffield Wednesday, Clough knows where he is looking to strengthen and the funds from anyone moving on should allow him to bring him in his targets over the summer. With Steve Davies also looking likely to leave a striker is certainly a priority along with cover at fullback and in the wide areas of midfield. Talking to dcfc.co.uk Clough said:

‘Twelve months ago we were looking at six or seven new players coming in and this year we are looking nowhere near that figure, which is good. It should be three or four players every season, where a few will drop off at the end – and then we try and improveĀ things from there.”

‘It (the squad) puts us in a position of strength, because we know, essentially we have got a very good squad here now. As long as we don’t lose too many of them, and we improve and strengthen, then we will be ready for next season.’
