It appears Nigel Clough is attempting to drum up interest in midfielder James Bailey as the new season approaches after again talking to the press about his availability and being surprised there has not been more interest in the youngster.

Bailey joined The Rams two years ago in a joint deal with John Brayford and was named the young player of the year during his first season. However, injuries and the emergence of Jeff Hendrick as a regular in midfield meant his opportunities were limited last season and the club are willing to listen to offers as the player enters the last year of his contract. Talking to the Derby Evening Telegraph about Bailey’s situation Clough said:

‘It’s an awkward situation for James but he has come back well in pre-season. We are ready to listen to offers for him and we have been surprised that there have not been more inquiries because he is an established Championship midfielder. He had a brilliant first season with us and although he had a couple of injuries last season which set him back. We are not quite sure why there have not been more inquiries.”
