Clough To Trim Derby Squad

Nigel Clough inherited not only a struggling squad, but a squad that is swelling with players, so much so that he has to cut this and will loan players out if he has to.

‘There are too many players and we need to get some out and playing football somewhere.

‘The chairman is on the case there and if we can do that then I think it relieves the burden all-round really, financially and having that number of players around.

‘We can only play 11 and when you’ve got mid 30s to late 30s there are 20-odd unhappy players before you start putting names on the teamsheet.

‘One slight problem is the beautiful surroundings we are in, players might want to stick around a bit longer than normal.’

Clough was talking to the official website.

Many players looked to have played there last match for the club under Paul Jewell, but the likes of Mo Camara and Andy Todd have come back into the side and proved they have something to offer. Jewell brought in plenty of players as well over the summer, so some of them could be the ones under threat?

Plenty of players will be offloaded in the coming weeks to ease the financial side of things as much as anything else, and Clough will have been noting which ones to offload while observing them from the stands before taking over and seeing them in training since his arrival.

Andrejs Pereplotkins, who joined Derby in August from Skonto FC on loan in August, has had his loan terminated by mutual consent. The 24-year-old made just three appearances.
