Clough Targets Six Arrivals

Nigel Clough is likely to be a busy man in the summer as plenty of players are likely to leave Pride Park, but he also aims to bring in up to six new faces as well.

“There are a lot of players out there who would give a lot to play for Derby County.

“A lot of money was spent in the last 12 months, so we know there’s not going to be fortunes but maybe three or four fees and a couple of free transfers.”

With his mission for this season accomplished, staying in the championship, he is now looking to the future.

“The chairman said one thing – that was stay in the Championship this season – that was it.

“So, we’ve achieved that – next season we want to improve in terms of performances, league position and we’ll go from there.”

Clough was talking to BBC Radio Derby.

Trimming the wage bill is something that Clough has been told he has to do, but this is something that he will also want to do as there are too many players in our squad, with too many of them not doing enough (or good enough) to warrant their wages so removing them is the first thing to do.

When that is done Clough can then bring in the targets he wants, and he will get them.
