Nigel Clough has already said that he’d like to sign up to six new players over the summer, and progress is already being made on potential targets.

“Contact has been made with all the parties involved. Rarely with these things do they (clubs) accept the first offer.

“How soon will new signings arrive?

“It’s dependent on other clubs as well. A few of the players are free transfers but two or three are under contract at their clubs, so we’ll be negotiating.”

Clough was talking to the Evening Telegraph.

Jake Buxton and John Brayford, both known to Clough from his Burton days, are two of the names being linked with moves to Derby this summer and Barry Bannan is a player that he’d like to bring back on loan from Aston Villa, however Clough knows he might have to be patient on that one as the 19-year-old will probably want to wait and see what his chances are at Villa Park next season first.
