Nigel Clough was pleased to have Will Hughes back on the pitch in the victory against Peterborough United and has praised the progress made by the youngster during his first season as a professional.

Hughes missed eleven games with a groin injury but came off the bench at the end of the match on Saturday and has also signed a year`s extension to his contract which now runs until the summer of 2016. The young midfielder has made a total of thirty-six appearances and has also made his debut for England Under-21`s during his first full season and he has played a major role during his spell in the side. Talking to dcfc.co.uk about his return to the side and the progress made by Hughes this season Nigel Clough said:

“He`s had a great season and we really do believe he`ll be even better next year. Will has shown he has plenty of potential this season and if continues to keep his feet on the ground and concentrate on his football, he can be anything he wants to be. A year ago he hadn`t even started a game, but he`s gone on to make over 30 starts this year, score a few goals and get capped by England at Under-21 level.”
