Derby County could be interested in signing former Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne after his release by the Premiership club although any move would hinge on him being willing to drop down to the Championship.

Dunne did not make a single appearance for Villa last season but he did make his playing comeback following a groin injury for the Republic of Ireland in their 4-0 friendly win over Georgia in Dublin where he partnered Richard Keogh in the centre of defence. There have been stories linking the defender with Celtic and Queens Park Rangers but Clough expects the player to remain in the Premiership telling the Derby Evening Telegraph:

“We know he`s been released by Aston Villa and we`ve heard he wants to stay in the Premier League. He`s that kind of ‘Jake Buxton` centre-half we like. If the possibility became available down the line, we would look at it. But I think he will be looking to stay in the league above for now.”
