The football world is on mourning with the sad news of Sir Bobby Robson’s passing today.

The former England boss, who had been battling cancer for a long time, sadly passed away today at the age of 76. Robson was the man that handed Nigel Clough his England debut, and the Rams boss has paid tribute to the legend.

“It is very sad news and football has lost a man of knowledge and integrity.

He gave me my first cap for England and for that I will always be very grateful.

There are few figures in the game, past or present, who command the respect and affection that Sir Bobby did, be it from supporters, managers, players or even non football people.

His influence on the game will be felt long after his passing and my thoughts and the thoughts of everyone at Derby County are with Sir Bobby’s family today.”

Clough was talking to the official website.

Well said Cloughie. Along with your own father, and only a handful of others in the game (like Cloughie says past or present), Sir Bobby was, and always will be, one of the most respected figures in football and will be sorely missed.
