Having a large number of injuries, as has been the case so often for Derby this season, didn’t help our chances against Bristol City on Saturday.

Even so, players injured or not, we were also again the architects of our own downfall with Nigel Clough conceding that chasing the match, as we did after falling behind in the opening minutes, made it even hard for us.

“The game typified our season. We already had 13 players on the injured list and Paul reported groin and hip problems just before the match.

That sort of thing certainly doesn’t help. But we conceded two poor goals, failed to take our chances and ended up with nothing from a game in which we played well.

We made a dreadful start, conceding a goal so early, and were chasing the game from the opening minutes to near the end.”

Clough was talking after the 2-1 defeat against Bristol City.

It’ll be good to get this season behind us, take stock of what we have and what we want and then finally shape the squad as Clough wants it for next season and hopefully get some consistency about the team we put out and our performances on the pitch.
