Stephen Bywater, who is out of contract in the summer, is hoping that he can earn himself a new long-term contract.

‘I’ve only got four months left and I don’t know what the future is for me.

‘I want to be here because there are exciting times ahead. I’m a confident person and believe I should be playing anyway.’

Bywater was talking to the Daily Star.

The 27-year-old has dislodged Roy Carroll and has impressed Nigel Clough enough for him to consider him as the current number one for Derby, so the longer that this remains the case the more likely it is that Bywater will be given a new contract.
