We have former Derby man Morten Bisgaard to thank in part for the arrival of Martin Albrechtsen, as our former midfielder helped convince his Danish countryman that Pride Park was the right place to be.

‘I spoke to Morten, who I played with at FC Copenhagen, and he only had positive things to say about Derby County. He said it was a really good club.

‘I hope I can do a good job here and become a new favourite. I am sure I will do well.’

Opting against staying with West Brom, who have just returned to the Premier League in favour of moving to Pride Park was a tough decision for him, but he feels it was the right move and he is looking forward to playing his part in what will hopefully be another successful promotion push for him.

‘Believe me, I thought about it a lot.

‘At West Brom, I was out of contract and we couldn’t agree but Derby seemed like they wanted me a little bit more than West Brom.

‘Derby came in with a good offer and I am ready for another Championship battle.

‘I am ready and, hopefully, I can help the club get back in the Premier League. That’s the aim.

‘I’ve just had one promotion and hopefully I can have another. I’m excited by the challenge.

Albrechtsen was talking to the official website.

The 28-yeart-old will be looking to follow in the footsteps of former Danish Rams, the already mentioned Bisgaard and before him the fans favourite, and former Player of the Year Jacob Laursen.
