Giles Barnes could make his eagerly awaited return from injury for Derby next month. Paul Jewell isn’t putting a specific date on a return but hopes it will be sometime in October.

‘We are probably looking at October.

‘I don’t like to say three or four weeks when it might be five or six, but he is on course.

Most would’ve already seen Barnes warming up with the squad at Pride Park on match days, and this has been done to keep his morale up.

‘We felt it would give him a little bit of a boost warming up with the players at Pride Park.

‘He warms up with the players in the morning before training and then goes to do his work with the conditioning coach.’

Jewell was talking to the official website.

Barnes had surgery in America after knee ligament damage in February, and injuries ruined the 20-year-old’s season last time round. He hadn’t really been right for most of last season so could never really do himself justice during our ill-fated stint in the Premier League.
