Giles Barnes’ Derby career ended on Friday after his contract, which would’ve ended at the end of the season anyway, was cancelled by mutual consent.

“We have been in discussions with Giles for a few weeks now and we believe it is in the interests of both the player and the club that he moves on to pursue a new challenge.

It is unfortunate that his Derby County career has been hampered by injury for the past two years, but Giles is a determined character and we all wish him well in the future.”

Clough was talking to the official website.

The 21-year-old was once one of the most highly rated youngsters around, unfortunately his career has been hampered by injuries and he’s not played at all this season and made just five appearances last season before his loan move to Fulham.

His Achilles injury has finally seen his Rams career end, and not in the way that most would’ve expected, a big money transfer, as had always been touted.
