Giles Barnes has claimed that he was frozen out of the first team by former Derby boss Paul Jewell, but feels a new lease of life under Nigel Clough.

‘I have been fit for a while but I just wasn’t getting played for reasons I don’t even know myself.

‘The new manager’s come in and started me in his first game, so that shows he’s got a lot of belief in me.

‘It’s given me a new fresh start.’

The 20-year-old also reiterated his desire to play in the Premier League again, and hopes this can happen with Derby.

‘I’m at Derby now but everyone wants to play in the Premier League and go as far with their career as they can and if that’s with Derby than that’s great.’

Barnes was talking to BBC Radio Derby.
